This Eucomis schijffii plant has a dense rosette of pointed bracts in its coma or crown. The bracts are about uniformly purple. Their tips sag over the flowers of the inflorescence, a raceme that flowers right down to the leaves on the ground.

These lowermost flowers were caught open by the camera, also angled up. The yellowish anthers appear as if they light up the ovary in their midst. The ovary has three square-tipped locules constituting its green body. It is fit for housing seed growth and for parenting the next generation of its kind. Life is beautiful.
