Eucomis bicolor, the bicoloured pineapple lily has quite a long scape or flowering stalk here. This scape may reach 60 cm, but the plant often presents a shorter one, sometimes only 20 cm tall. The individual flower pedicels are also variable in length, sometimes as long as 5 cm. This allows the flowers to droop.

    E. bicolor, similar to several other Eucomis species, is frost-resistant. The plant is likely to reward the gardener as it grows easily, as do several of the other members of this popular genus. They can be grown from seed or by separating bulbs. Many of the garden plants of this genus obtainable in the nursery market are hybrids or cultivars (Manning, 2009; Wikipedia).
