    Ehretia rigida subsp. nervifolia (SA Tree No.657), the puzzle bush or deurmekaarbos in Afrikaans, has attractive clusters of sweetly scented small blue, white or mauve flowers. Some corollas in picture have turned brown or dropped off, showing green ovaries turning into fruit. Styles are persistent upon the developing fruits.

    The rough leaf surfaces and a complex tangle of intertwined branches are characteristic. The plant belongs to the Boraginaceae or forget-me-not family.
