The lowest leaves of Ferraria ferrariola are usually longer and narrower. They alternate up the stem in opposing vertical or twisted arrays.
The leaf orientation is angled up, its shape lanceolate. The broad leaf-bases sheathe the stem, tapering gradually to their blunt tips that sometimes curve in. The leaf sheathes are sometimes red- or purple-spotted, not on the plant in picture. The dull blue-green leaf surfaces are longitudinally vein-lined (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
