Erica rosacea subsp. rosacea, previously known scientifically as Thoracosperma rosaceum, is a dense, single-stemmed shrublet, erect or spreading and reaching heights from 20 cm to 1 m.

The species distribution is in the Western Cape on the Langeberg Mountains near Swellendam to the west of the Eastern Cape. The photo was taken south of Oudtshoorn.

The habitat is north-facing lower slopes where fynbos grows. The subspecies is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://www.worldfloraonline.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
