Erica viscaria subsp. longifolia may achieve scattered colonies at higher elevations of the fynbos covered moutain slopes in their domain.
The age of the veld in picture allows easy access to sunlight for the Erica flowers in bloom. Should the vegetation become taller, the Erica bushes will keep up to heights around 1 m, or going slightly beyond their normal capacity. After that the usual fynbos time-share arrangements may gradually swamp them. That is, if this area has soil, other growth resources and plant species that can take matters to greater heights before the next fire.
Flowering of this Erica happens throughout the year (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Baker and Oliver, 1967).
