    Freesia occidentalis rocks at Kagga Kamma! It doesn’t matter that the invisible corms get squashed flat as they bulge in their narrow lodgings. It’s cool down there and moisture is easily followed by the roots.

    While enemies can’t dig up corms without special skill or effort, flowering will be detected by pollinators from afar.

    To have lichen for neighbours will do just fine. They steal nobody’s sun, as Alexander the Great had to be asked by the philosopher Diogenes to move from obstructing his sunlight (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; Wikipedia; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
