Freesia leichtlinii subsp. alba flowers

This Freesia leichtlinii subsp. alba inflorescence photographed near Mossel Bay displays deep yellow markings on the lower tepals of its flowers. Most of this colouring occurs on the central tepal that only has a white tip. The lateral pair are yellow only along the central parts of the lateral margins. The rest of the perianth lives up to the white mentioned in the subspecies name of alba. Thin dark lines occur on the back part of the lowermost tepal.

The spike of two to eight flowers presents its flowers facing to the side. Stamens tipped with white anthers are visible inside the corolla funnel. The six tips of the three forked stigma branches positioned above the stamens are also white (http://pza.sanbi.org).
