    The trunk of Erythrina caffra, the coastal coral-tree, may reach a wide girth, even on trees that do not become the tallest. The grey or brownish grey bark may retain some sparsely scattered, short prickles among slight roughness from longitudinal fissuring, also on the main branches that may be positioned fairly low down (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Pooley, 1993).
