This clump of young Encephalartos senticosus leaf rosettes emanating from the same underground base, shows how suckering from the main stem may produce multiple stems growing close together. Yellow leaf rachides and ascending glossy green leaflets can be seen on the flourishing green leaves. The leaf rachis is generally quite straight here with minimal curvature (Coates Palgrave, 2002; www.plantzafrica.com).
