These Encephalartos princeps leaves show very little toothing upon lower margins of leaflets. The leaflets are either straight tapering to acutely pointed tips, or display slight upward twisting of the leaflet tip. Yellow colouring is seen on some leaves in picture, not consistent with the typical silvery blue of young leaflets. The incubous overlapping of leaflets is consistently seen.
Leaflet bases are smaller than those of E. lehmannii and the leaflets mainly lack the leaf bumps of that species, the surface nodules that aide differentiation between the two.
A wasp nest can be seen hanging from a leaf in the photo (Hugo, 2014; Coates Palgrave, 2002).
