Eulophia clitellifera flower from above

    Eulophia clitellifera flower from above

Seen from above, the Eulophia clitellifera flower has its lateral petals positioned in front of the slightly longer and slenderer sepals; both pairs spreading, the sepals up to 9 mm wide.

The shiny ovary behind, ridged and shiny, is long and thin, serving also as flower stalk. Above the ovary the short brown bulge of the spur is visible; it becomes about 4 mm long.

In the centre the column and lip appear as one due to the angle of the photo; the lip lower and protruding further to its two apical lobes. Some cobwebs indicate that the flower may be or may have been inhabited.

This plant may produce from 5 to 25 small flowers in one inflorescence (Lowrey and Wright, 1987; Pooley, 1998; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982).
