Flowers and fruits among the Euphorbia clandestina leaf-bases? This isn’t quite the way most plants market their floral food services to regular clients and other business associates. But if you do not try something different you are not a separate species.

The leaf alignment is even, open and accessible though. The narrow, erect leaf-shapes present no serious impediments to pollinator flight plans when they target these cyathia. It only calls for a little pilot dexterity. And bumpy rides are not penalised.

What is proven to be successful, generation after generation, is the tried and tested, continually evolving set of interactive living systems that is nature. All that live participate. Pattern building in a living species never ends. All extant exponents of every kind participate in some small way in the shaping of their respective species. Although it may only be to die in time for not adding their particular genes to the species mix of the future. Without this selective exclusion a species cannot progress.

Nothing in life goes as slowly as evolution. Yet it functions in the most incessant, fervent system of continual procreation. Eating other participants and nevertheless dying like flies continually seem like eternal games, the non-stop occupations of all the living in order to keep this life-thing on track. For life is the force shared by all its short term participants.
