Euphorbia schinzii, sometimes called the northern noors (spurge) and in Afrikaans the klipmelkbossie (little stone milkbush), is a low-growing stem succulent growing branched stems from a thickened, tuberous rootstock. The clump of erect branches becomes about 17 cm tall.
The branches are four-angled, very spiny along the stem ridges. The young plants have thicker stems and tuberous roots. Older, bigger plants develop rhizomes, the stems becoming thinner as the plant spreads.
The species distribution is in the north of South Africa in Gauteng, Limpopo and North West, also in some neighbouring countries.
The plants grow in stony, arid, full sun conditions. The species is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century (Frandsen, 2017; Smith, et al, 2017; Van Wyk and Malan, 1997; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org)
