The habitat of the naboom is deciduous woodland, often on rocky hills in hot, dry land. These trees are frequently found near termite mounds. Apart from in South Africa the species distribution extends over much of tropical Africa with a notable forest of them near Lake Nakuru in Kenya.
An earlier descriptive name for this tree was Euphorbia candelabrum. This picture was taken in winter in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, an inviting place where visitors can observe quietly and regain inner peace (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Noad and Birnie, 1994; www.plantzafrica.com).
