The false flowers or cyathia of Euphorbia davyi grow on peduncles from axils of tubercles among the leaves at stem tops inside globose involucres. In the photo the three oblong branches of the greenish yellow stigma can be observed in the centre of at least one cyathium.
Some erect stalks topped with anthers can also be seen; the reduced male flowers. The circle of five fleshy green nectar glands are ringed yellow around them. They are decorated with finger-like protuberances pointing outwards from the cyathium perimeter, appearing extraterrestrial.
The central protrusions on the old, leafless stem tubercles end in flat, white, dot-like surfaces (Frandsen, 2017; iNaturalist; iSpot; JSTOR).
