Euphorbia hamata is indigenous to the Western Cape, the Northern Cape and Namibia. It thrives in the dry, hot conditions of the open veld found there. E. peltigera is now considered part of the species.
This plant is cultivated widely, also in the USA, Europe and other parts of the world for its quite special flowers and branched, contorted stems.
Traditional headgear and even some modern millinery designs include shapes resembling these flowers. Who knows where the muses hide?
