Euryops lateriflorus flowerheads

The flowerheads of Euryops lateriflorus grow in clusters on leafless stalks from leaf axils near stem tips. The wiry peduncles vary between 1 cm and 5 cm in length. Lateriflorus (Latin) means flowering on the side.

A flowerhead measures about 1,5 cm in diameter with sparse, elliptic, female ray florets and five-lobed, fertile disc florets; both kinds are yellow in colour.

Flowering happens in winter and spring.

The dry seeds to be released later are hairy (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iSpot; JSTOR).
