Euryops lateriflorus dead stem-tip flowerheads

The remains of Euryops lateriflorus flowerheads persist on their long stalks, ascending from leaf axils.

The stem-tip leaves, yellowed after a dry and hot summer season at the time of the photo in April, differ in colour from those older, dull green ones lower down. There has been some stem growth here since blooming, the flowerheads normally emerging at or very close to a stem-tip.

Lower down the stems are bare, the leaves having been discarded when sufficient fresh ones up top started functioning well enough to replace them.

In picture, the leaves fold in a little along their central axes or midribs. The leaf margins curve in slightly, particularly near their tips, also more in the upper leaves (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015).
