    Sparsely leaved, this Ficus sycomorus tree shows much bare branch among the green enhanced by unripe figs.

    These trees are either evergreen or deciduous; this one still in the process of developing its annual full foliage covering. A mature tree may be 25 m tall and 30 m wide.

    The short, leafless branches that bear the fruit do not get long. They make up for this in numbers, delivering a huge crop. This is welcomed by the many consumers of these popular Lowveld fruit. The long fruiting season affirms the trees commitment to its customers (Schmidt, et al, 2002).
