These Lithops lesliei subsp. lesliei leaf-pairs were seen in the Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden. The plant may be L. lesliei subsp. lesliei var. hornii.
The pinkish brown leaf bodies have shiny olive-green windows on top with finely outlined island patches raggedly shaped and coloured as the skin around the windows. On this lush plant the fissures separating the tops of the leaf-pairs open in their centres. This is where the new seasons leaf-pair or flower will appear. The lips in the fissure are smooth-edged; on the outside of the leaf body less so.
Some old leaf-skin remains are still visible around some leaves, whitish and papery (Frandsen, 2017; iNaturalist).
