Lithops localis flowers

The short-stalked flowers of Lithops localis usually grow solitary from the fissures between leaf-pairs. The fleshy sepals, slightly taller than the leaves, are free above the inferior ovaries covered by the calyx.

The flowers are small, the yellow petals slightly shiny and sometimes white at their bases as in the photo. The soft, delicate petals curve down to their blunt-ended tips. A multitude of white-, yellow- or beige-anthered stamens are erect in the flower centre on white filaments.

Flowers only open for a few hours in the afternoon, probably not in bad weather (Grenier, 2019; Frandsen, 2017; Van Jaarsveld, et al, 2006; Smith, et al, 1998; Herre, 1971).
