Flowers and fresh foliage cover this old Kigelia africana tree in the Caledon Wildflower Garden. Planted so far south beyond the boundaries of its natural distribution, a sausage tree will withstand cold, adapt to winter rain, flower and fruit in alien conditions, if frost doesn’t get the sapling. The young leaves here have pale creamy beige to orange tones for a short while.
