Ixia flexuosa pale flower

In this faintly pink Ixia flexuosa flower the stubby, flat and incurving yellow anthers on their short filaments are clearly visible. The slender, white stigma branches on the style are neatly positioned, dodging the anthers.

A central green star surrounded by a larger white star-shaped area can be seen in the flower in picture. Vein lines and central markings, faint on this specimen, vary in flowers of the species.

A common Afrikaans name of koringblommetjie (little wheat flower) is still around (Privett and Lutzeyer, 2010; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
