Lapeirousia silenoides leaf and bracts

Lapeirousia silenoides grows a single, long leaf emerging at ground level, angled out and slightly up. The leaf is straight and ridged, lance-shaped to linear, up to 10 cm in length.

Above it there are several shorter, leaf-like bracts, spiralling up the stem and reducing in size to the top. The bracts are broader than the leaf and angled upwards with curved-in tips. The bracts are covered in a waxy layer, the stems somewhat flattened

The long, slender flower tubes emerging erectly from above the bracts are on display in the photo. They are pale coloured and slightly curved (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Eliovson, 1990; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
