Lessertia annularis, commonly known in Afrikaans as the krimpsiektebos (loco disease bush), is a multistemmed, short-lived and somewhat herbaceous shrublet that reaches heights from 25 cm to 50 cm. The variable plant mostly sprawls, is sometimes prostrate, while some young plants are erect.
The species distribution is in the west and south of South Africa, in the Northern Cape, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and the Free State, also in Namibia and maybe further in the region. The photo was taken on the Minwater farm near Oudtshoorn.
The habitat is renosterveld and diverse, semi-arid shrubveld in sandy soils. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
