The leaves of Lessertia spinescens are imparipinnate, i.e. there is an extra leaflet at the tip of the rachis apart from the about seven to ten leaflet pairs of the compound leaf. The pairs of ascending leaflets sometimes deviate from being precisely opposite each other, the end one positioned slightly lower than the rest in picture.

The sessile (stalkless) leaflets are narrow and oblong, tapering to acutely pointed tips. The margins are entire, their blades folding in along the sides to form a channel on top. Leaflet colour varies from pale green or yellow-green to dark green. Both blade surfaces are hairy, as is the rachis joining them. Stipules are present (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
