Many names for a plant may indicate different communities that notice and use it, wider geographic distributions or various roles it plays in different ecologies and human societies.
Lobostemon fruticosus has several Afrikaans names across the distribution range. They include agdaegeneesbos (bush that heals within eight days), luibos (lazy bush) and douwurmbos (ringworm bush). The names indicate uses for skin conditions such as burns and sores in the old Cape traditional medicine (Bean and Johns, 2005; Van Wyk and Gericke, 2000).
