Lobostemon glaucophyllus early flower stage

The young Lobostemon glaucophyllus flower in picture has a ring of five, thick, fleshy filaments, tapering at the top, purplish in colour and translucent. Their anthers are pale beige and brown, appearing disproportionately small for the filaments. The style is thick, whitish and hairy, tapering strongly to a very small stigma that is positioned in the centre, slightly lower than the anthers.

The rounded to bluntly pointed and convex upper petals parts are fleshy, water cells visible along the blue and white surfaces. The strong, white lines down the centre of the lower petal parts have purple-tinged margins at this stage on this bush (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
