In profile, a Lampranthus fugitans flower shows the leaf-coloured calyx cone below its pride, the ample, purple corolla. The calyx lobes, however, have already lost their original leaf colour, turned yellowish and red before drying out fully later in the fruiting stage.
Flowers are borne just above the leaf-tip level, ensuring unimpeded pollinator opportunity of eating here and moving pollen to where it is needed, mainly in the centres of other flowers (Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
