Lampranthus aureus is one of the most widely planted vygie or mesemb plants from South Africa because of its spectacular orange flowers and the ease with which it can be grown in the garden or containers.
It grows in nature on the west coast between Vredenburg and Saldanha. Winter rainfall or watering, hot dry summers in sandy soil and full sun should provide the conditions for it to bring ample flower rewards through spring and summer. Summer rainfall area gardeners should have success if they can provide frost protection.
