Lotononis dahlgrenii is a woody shrub that grows to 80 cm. The rigid stems are widely branched, pale green when young, turning brown as they age and develop rough surfaces.
The distribution is small on the Rooiberg and Gamkaberg in the Little Karoo. This photo was taken during May on the Rooiberg.
The habitat is arid fynbos and sandolien scrub on upper, rocky slopes. The species is considered to be vulnerable in its habitat early in the twenty first century, due to heavy browsing by livestock, the plants being palatable (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Wikipedia; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
