Leucospermum calligerum

Leucospermum calligerum, commonly known as the arid pincushion, is an erect or sprawling shrub that grows to 2 m in height.

The alternate, simple leaves are lanceolate to elliptic. The tips rarely have as many as three teeth, usually just a single tooth at the acute-angled tip. The grey-haired leaves are from 12 mm to 36 mm long. 

The species distribution is from the far southwest of the Northern Cape near Nieuwoudtville to the west of the Western Cape in the Cederberg and Caledon, eastwards to Riversdale and the east of the Agulhas Plain. This plant was found in the Elandsberg Nature Reserve at Bartholomeus Klip.

The habitat is dry, sandy fynbos flats and slopes. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2009; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
