Leucospermum wittebergense stems

The silvery grey leaves of Leucospermum wittebergense ascend, crowded on the erect stems and overlapping. They are covered in whitish hairs. The leaf shape is elliptic, attenuating to an acute tip. The leaves have red tips and sometimes the margins near the top are also red.

This species resembles L. calligerum that is also found in the Little Karoo, for instance in the Langeberg Mountains, but mainly further to the west. The leaves of L. calligerum may have as many as three glandular teeth at leaf tips.

The styles of their flowers are 2,1 to 2,5 cm long, i.e. generally longer than those of L. wittebergense (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
