Leucadendron nobile stems

The stems of Leucadendron nobile in picture are thin and cream-coloured near their tips. They thicken and become red-brown lower down while remaining smooth as they age. Old stem parts further down retain their leaves for a time, changing to dull green and grey later on.

Leaf attachments to the stems are whitish cream at a certain stage as seen on the stems in the photo.

The youngest leaves are cream here, spreading at the base and turning up rather abruptly (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Moriarty, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
