The dry Leucadendron laxum female cone in picture consists of woody out-curved bracts. The cone is embedded in new growth, lush and leafy on red or green stems, bypassing it for dealing with the next season.

The nutlet seeds are dispersed annually during summer, not clutched by the bracts for years until freed by fire, as many other conebush species do (Bean and Johns, 2005; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; INaturalist).
