Leucadendron platyspermum is dioecious like conebushes in general, its male and female cones grown on different bushes.
The female cones turn brown from green when young. They are large, their dimensions 5 cm long and 4 cm wide. These cones grow on sturdy stalks at stem-tips, the cone bracts double-edged and the involucral leaves yellow. The seeds are retained in the cones until release by fire.
The smaller male cones or pollen cones also grow at stem-tips, surrounded by large involucral leaves and hairy bracts. The anthers are oblong, the pollination is by wind.
Flowering happens in early spring (Mustart, et al, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; JSTOR; Wikipedia).
