The specific name elimense refers to the rural village of Elim, situated on the Agulhas Plain in the south of the Western Cape. This area is associated with the distribution area of the plant. Indications of the small distribution area are more practically associated with the towns of Caledon and Bredasdorp.

Leucadendron elimense is a variable shrub with erect growth and some branching. It belongs to a genus of about 80 species endemic to South Africa. The cone-bushes are evergreen shrubs or trees, an important part of the fynbos vegetation (www.plantzafrica.com; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984).
