Late in the season (September) the blooming of the male Leucadendron tinctum plant is done. The stem-tip cones are now brown, appearing as if they have already curved back their woody bract tips, the used stamens brown. Curvature on the leaves is much more gradual and graceful.
The leaves below the pollen cone are paler than the normal leaves on the stems lower down. Pale cream involucral leaf colouring has been replaced in patches (and on the margins) by some pale purplish pink (Privett and Lutzeyer, 2010; Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist).
