Leucadendron galpinii, the hairless conebush, is a robust shrub growing from a single stem to heights around 3 m. The bark is smooth, pale grey-brown to olive brown on lower stems, red higher up.
The species distribution is mostly coastal in the Western Cape from the De Hoop Nature Reserve to Mossel Bay, inland to Robertson.
The habitat is limestone and sand fynbos, as well as dune strandveld on low-lying flats and slopes in neutral to limestone derived soils. The species is considered vulnerable in its habitat early in the twenty first century, the population decreasing due to thatch harvesting practices, including brush cutting (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
