Indigofera flabellata is a single-stemmed, erect shrub of the Fabaceae family reaching heights from 1 m to 2,5 m. The plants are very hairy, sometimes much-branched or few straight, brown branches spread sparsely. The lower stems become leafless.

The species distribution is in the east of the Western Cape and slightly into the west of the Eastern Cape. The plants grow along the coast and across the coastal mountains in the Little Karoo and the Langkloof where the photo was taken near Louterwater.

The habitat is fynbos on flats and slopes in moist as well as arid conditions. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
