This Lachenalia punctata plant presents flowers that appear aged or stressed, although the top three have not opened yet. Maybe the autumn rain hasn’t done much for the plant in its exposed sandy home.

Apart from the usual pink to red flowers presented by L. punctata, some tending towards orange or purple also occur. The perianth dots are of interest. Rarely seen, some references do mention spotted perianths. Otherwise, this reflects on the condition of these flowers rather than a normal colour form... a rather unlikely conclusion.

The to be expected dots on the small leaves are present, very dark on a blue-grey background. The stem is also well spotted (Manning, 2009; Bean and Johns, 2005; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
