Some Lachenalia bulbifera plants bear flowers of which the inner tepals are longer than the outer three. The inner ones in picture are purple, the outer ones pinkish red. The tip shapes also differ, the outer tepals obtusely pointed to rounded, separating from their mates some short distance before their tips. The inner ones are close to flat-tipped, forming a nearly even cup rim in their tips.

The opposite flowers in the raceme here show their broad-based bracts below the pedicels. The pointed, bluish bracts are somewhat wavy with dark lines down the centre from tip to base.

At the raceme tip some tiny, thin buds are visible among the bracts.

The photo was taken near the coastal path west of Vermont in June (Marais, (Ed.), 2017; Manning, 2009; iNaturalist).
