Lachenalia bulbifera leaves and flower stalk

The leaves of Lachenalia bulbifera grow semi-erect, clasping the stem. They are broadly lance-shaped or strap-like, tapering to pointed tips, sometimes with wavy margins. There may either be only one leaf or two opposing ones, the one sheathing the stem inside the other as on the plant in picture. Leaves may be plain green in colour or blotched with purple markings. The markings on the leaves in the photo are small and only a bit darker green.

Markings on the sturdy flower stalk do show some faint purplish colouring of the blotches though (Manning, 2007).
