Lachenalia peersii, a bulbous geophyte commonly known in Afrikaans as bekkies (little (animal) mouths), grows an annual stem from the perennial bulb to heights from 12 cm to 35 cm.

The species distribution is small, in an area on the south coast of the Western Cape, west of False Bay from the Kogelberg to Hermanus and towards Caledon. Thus restricted, the species is vulnerable. The plants grow in a fynbos habitat on rocky slopes and flats (Bean and Johns, 2005; Duncan, 2010; iSpot; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
