The Lobelia pubescens flower in the photo taken near the waterfall in Fernkloof has some marginal imperfections on its three horizontal, lower lobes. The alarmed-looking upper lobe pair has tip protrusions that may nominally serve as defense mechanisms, fooling few.

The white corolla colouring shifts to ambiguous blue grey on the upper lobes, more so on the outside of the narrow tube behind.

What looks like sepals behind the corolla are long and narrow, tapering support parts veering away from the corolla.

The angularly toothed leaves below the flower are ovate in shape with clearly visible midribs (Manning, 2009; Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
