Lobelia chamaepitys leaves

The long, narrow leaves of Lobelia chamaepitys with their sparsely spaced teeth can be observed in this photo. They grow on sturdy, purplish stems near the ground. The curving, worm-like leaf-shapes appear short of moisture here in December near Botrivier on a mountain slope. Whitish hairs cover the leaf surfaces, contributing to the moisture retention process through the dry, hot summer season. 

Thin, leafless flower stalks, purple and erect, can also seen emerging from the stems (Bean and Johns, 2005).
