    The scant leaves of Lobelia setacea, the wiry lobelia, resemble the plants wiry green stems. The greenness of the plant is sometimes more prevalent in stems than leaves. Leaf-shape is linear and thread-like, less than 1 mm wide and about 1 cm long.

    The specific epithet, setacea, is derived from the Latin saeta or seta meaning a thick coarse hair or bristle and -aceus indicating resemblance (Manning, 2007; Mustart, et al, 1997; Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Andrew, 2017; iSpot).
