This evergreen bulbous geophyte with its attractive brush-like winter flowers grows naturally along the South African south and east coasts. A geophyte is a perennial plant with an underground storage and propagation organ such as a bulb, rhizome or corm. It is a food store, allowing new leaves to grow in spring.

Haemanthus albiflos is popular with gardeners. It is propagated from seed.
