Wachendorfia thyrsiflora colony

The habitat of the bloodroot or redroot is wet kloofs and marshes of the coastal region between the Cape Peninsula and Port Elizabeth. The plants grow in sandy soil in rocky places around the water courses and boggy patches where they may develop into large and dense stands as in this picture. The streams running through the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden add to the appeal of this very special place, making this a very worthwhile destination for all nature lovers.

Wachendorfia thyrsiflora must be kept moist especially in the winter season if planted in the garden. This plant is really a good solution for the waterlogged corner of any garden (that has such a luxury)!
